KEIR SURGICAL REDUCES CONTAIMINATION RISK WITH SECOND-GENERATION RONGEURS

Recent reports of contamination in hospitals and clinics have been linked to first-generation rongeurs. The cause of leftover biomass material found in rongeurs is largely due to the sliding action of the top cutter inside the track guide. With each bite, excess biomass material is pushed to the rear portion of the track.

Even after a proper sterilization cycle, the biomass material will remain and become hard and flakey over time. As more biomass material gets caught in the track with each use, the rongeur will eventually seize up and stop functioning. To find out more about the risk of contaminated rongeurs visit the CTV Winnipeg report here.

Keir Surgical has available, the second-generation of rongeurs that are detachable. Detachable rongeurs are easy to assemble and disassemble to ensure improved cleaning and lubrication through the sterile processing cycle. This dramatically reduces the risk of leftover biomass that can be trapped in the track guide.
